1. We must have people focus in the edification of the church:
1 Corinthians 14:3-5- “ On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.”
a) Prophets worry about the upbuilding of other.
Is not great to be part of a group that whenever you come always you fill upbuilded? Even when you received a rough and hard word, in the end you know that word came to build you up.
We need encouragement for the things we haven’t done yet. We need consolation for the things we did wrong.
A prophecy comes with the content to keep the brother in the way, not to stimulate fear, and the backslid state.
b) The final goal is the church.
I know that many fake prophets tend to take attention for themselves. But the real prophet points to Jesus and his church. Real prophets says: John 3:30 “Let him increase, and I decrease.”
It’s totally wrong someone fill fed and satisfied and decided to not be part a local church because of a prophecy. I know there are brothers and sisters that seeks and hunt prophets all the time, but when God wants talk with you he will send a prophet after you.
2. Prophecy brings salvation.
1 Corinthians 14:24-25- “ But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all, 25 the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you.”
It is true that prophecy acuse. Actually the word “called to account” (anakrino) means be judged. But a word of God can’t bring condemnation without solution. It’s clear that with the revelation the repentance finds place. Can you imagine this amazing experience when this happen in your life group?
3. A prophet confirm the word of God.
1 Corinthians 14:37 “ If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord..”
We are a church based on the Word of God. Is not our opinion, is not our interpretation, is not our way to be… is the bible way to be. We confirm what bible talks about. We apply what the bible talks about.
We are minister of just one message, one text, one book… we should not look to quote thinkers, philosophers and good writers, but we should seek the best way to quote the Bible, even when we use other writers.
4. You must desire it.
1 Corinthians 14:39 “So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.”
5. It is true.
1 Thessalonians 5:20-24 “ 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”
Believe me we can enjoy this gift in real , right now, among us. Let do this for your edification.
